On 31 December 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) was informed of a cluster of cases of pneumonia detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. A novel coronavirus was subsequently identified from patient samples. This is now being referred to as Wuhan Novel Coronavirus.
Public advice and guidance
The UK government’s current advice for people who have returned from Wuhan in the last 14 days is as follows:
- stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with other flu
- call NHS 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the city
